Adventures in Cooking:: Homemade Crockpot Sloppy Joes

I hadn't had Sloppy Joes in a long time, but last week, I had a craving (even though it wasn't on my Meal Plan).  A while back (like, a year or two ago) I had made Sloppy Joes from scratch and they were soooo yummy, but I couldn't find the recipe, so I set out to find another one!

Here's what I came up with:

Crock Pot Sloppy Joes
  • 1.5 – 2 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper
  • 3-4 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp. yellow mustard (like French's)
  • 1.5 cups ketchup
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • salt to taste
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • Buns (I don't do homemade buns...yet.  But they're on my list of things to learn to do!)
Here's how I made my  sloppy joe meat.  First, brown the ground beef in a skillet.   Drain (reserve 1-2 tbsp. of drippings) and put the meat in your crockpot.

With the drippings in the skillet, add the chopped onion, bell peppers (I had a mix of yellow and green in my freezer) and garlic.  Saute until tender.

Add the sauteed veggies to the crockpot, along with the ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, salt & pepper.

Stir it all up and let it simmer on low for 3-4 hours.

Serve hot on buns... it's SO delicious!  Way better than anything you'll get out of a can!

Note: I am a Tupperware consultant and I love to share my favorite Tuppeware products with you!  In these pics you see the Tupperware Saucy Silicone Spatula (I have 5 of them - I love 'em!), the red measuring cups, and Micro Pitcher Set (purple liquid measuring cup - awesome set) and those pretty purple plates are Microwave Luncheon Plates.  If you're interested in ordering any of these products you can order them here or shoot me an email!

  1. This looks delish! AND my mom makes homemade buns all the time (she has more time than I do, considering her children are grown) and they are soooooo good! I really need to figure out how to have the time to make my own buns! Nothing beats them!

  2. ALSO, to add more veggies, you could always shred a carrot in there! Great color and I bet the kids wouldn't even notice it was in there!

  3. Thanks Kristen! Yea, my husband always remembers to add chopped or shredded carrots to recipes...I often forget. We use them in spaghetti and pasta sauces and it adds a touch of sweet, extra (healthy) veggies and you're right, the kids don't notice!
