7 Quick Takes Friday (Volume 22)

It's Friday..and time for 7 Quick Takes Friday!  Be sure to visit Conversion Diary to read more Quick Takes.  In the  meantime, here are 7 little notes about my life this past week.  You can read all my previous Quick Takes here.  Just so you know...I'm going to try to shorten my quick takes this week...they've been getting longer and longer and not so "quick" anymore, so we'll see.  

1.  On last Saturday, we took our kids to the creek.  The creek at the low-water bridge.  Have you ever been to one?   It's a country-thing, I think and it's a treasure of fun!

Okay, so except for the dozen or so pictures that I couldn't resist posting, I really am going to try to keep these short.  What did you think?  Doesn't the creek at the low-water bridge look like fun?

2.  Memorial Day was a fabulous day for us (except I forgot to use my camera - at all!).  We had lunch with all of my siblings and their families and my parents and all the kids played on a slip-n-slide and we grilled chicken and sausage, and had homemade ice cream and just had fun.  Then, my husband and I and our bunch of kiddos went to meet friends that afternoon for more eating (grilled burgers and all the sides and yummy cookies and brownies) and swimming.  Other than being totally exhausted, we had a blast!

3.  Speaking of being exhausted, my husband and I were reminded that we're not as young as we used to be.  On Sunday night, I rented 2 Redbox movies and we sat up until 2am watching movies with my baby brother and his new bride - that was all fine and fun - until it was time to get up and run all day Monday.  Boy-oh-boy were we worn out!  How is it that we could do that in college... function on almost no sleep?  But now...if we don't get our 7-8 hours, we're like zombies!

4. I'm reading The Shack right now.  Have any of you read it?  Without giving away anything, let me just say, it really grabbed me in the beginning and I was hooked.  But now, well, I'm not so sure.  It's just... not what I expected.  I'd love to hear opinions of it from anyone who finished it.  Am I going to be happy I pressed through, or sad that it's not as great as I hoped?

5.  My Mama's situation that I told you about last week has drastically settled down.  The teachers here are still waiting for the board to figure out the budget and settle their contracts, and Mama has started teaching summer school and continues to get an out-pouring of support, but mostly, it's quieter - and quiet is nice after all that uproar!

6.  My husband is also done with overtime (I think I already told you that), but it's been soooo nice having him home at reasonable hours again this week.  We really, really missed him around here for the last 5 weeks!

7.  You know what's missing here?  Cakes.  I haven't done one since the graduation cake (see #2) and while I needed the break, I'm sort of missing it!  Anybody need a cake?  Have a request?  I'm up for a challenge!!
