It's Friday..and time for 7 Quick Takes Friday! Be sure to visit Conversion Diary to read more Quick Takes. In the meantime, here are 7 little notes about my life this past week. You can read all my previous Quick Takes here. Just so you know...I'm going to try to shorten my quick takes this week...they've been getting longer and longer and not so "quick" anymore, so we'll see.
1. I haven't been blogging as often lately and I've missed Quick Takes for several weeks because I've been really sick. I've had a kidney infection and 2 weeks of excruciating gall bladder pain. Is that TMI? Anyway, I've missed you all very much.
2. I've done alot of reading over the past couple of weeks. In fact, I've almost finished 4 books. Two of them I wouldn't recommend, so I won't mention those, but 2 of them were pretty good. House Rules
The other one is The Shack
3. I've finally decided that we're going to be year-round homeschoolers. I've always struggled to cram everything into the last couple of months of the "regular" school year and well, I'm just not doing it anymore. We're going to take our time, take breaks when we need to, and pretty much learn all year long. With 4 children school aged and a 3 year old, I just need less pressure.
4. As I mentioned on Facebook last night, I have an irrational fear of frogs. It's more than fear really. I'm terrified, horrified, paralyzed by them. I'd rather touch a snake or capture a spider - anything besides being near a frog. I shiver just looking at this picture...it'll probably give me nightmares and I'm not exaggerating.

5. Why did I tell you that? Well while showering last night, I had my hair all lathered up with my yummy smelling Herbal Essence shampoo and I had my Sweet Pea Shower gel in hand. But when I picked up my sponge, what did I find? TWO slimy green tree frogs. TWO!!! I nearly died. I screamed. LOUD. I scared my husband and children. I was shaking and crying. While wrapped in the (frog-free shower curtain - I checked), my husband had to come in and catch them and get them out. Then I made him check behind and under all the other soaps, shampoos, sponges, etc. I have to say, I might never shower again. Ever.
6. On that happy note, what do you have planned for the 4th of July? We *might* invite some friends over and have a cookout if everyone doesn't already have plans. Or we might just have a quiet day at home - that's always nice! Anyway, regardless of what we do, I know I want to make these cupcakes. I mean, red, white and blue...what could be better? Or... I might somehow translate them into a cake. Rainbow style? What do you think??
7. Next week is VBS at our church. I'm the "kitchen leader" and I'm super excited about it. Our theme is Saddle Ridge Ranch (western/cowboy theme) and I've got a menu cooked up that's gonna be super fun!!
It includes Pig in a Poke (hot dogs), Wagon Wheel Pasta (a version of spaghetti), Tumbleweed Taters (chips), Hay Bales (rice krispie treats), and lots of other campfire ranch food. Maybe I'll show you some pics next week!
Until next Friday...

Hey Rose, I understand how you feel about frogs. I do like them either. We recently moved into the house near the lake and surrounded by woods. Everyday I see so many frogs it is not even funny. My kids enjoy the fogs and actually caught 40 of them in one day. I have to watch where I walk when wearing flip flops for fear of stepping on one. They just gross me out.
ReplyDeleteI can understand being afraid of frogs - they're kind of nasty. But cute little sparkling green tree frogs? They're SO cute! He He. This is coming from a biology major, of course. ;)
ReplyDeleteI liked the Shack, but couldn't get into it like everybody else could. It was a really slow read for me, too. I think I just expected it to be better with all the hype about it.
My church here did Saddle Ridge for VBS a couple weeks ago. Funny! My sister taught cute little 1st graders. :)
I think that year-round homeschooling makes the most sense, though sometimes summers call for scaled-back school. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThe Shack is indeed thought-provoking. I don't like the ending, though. I think it is a cop-out and undermines the purpose of the book.
