Wonky Hot Wheels Birthday Cake

If you're visiting to see my cakes, you can scroll through all of my cakes posts here, visit my cakes page here, and "like" my new Facebook page "Rose Bakes" here.

So, since Wednesday I've been working on yet another cake.  I know I wasn't supposed to do another cake after the Monster Truck Cake (considering I'm 39 weeks pregnant), but it was for a friend and I just couldn't say no!

Her little boy Hardy is having his 5th Birthday Party and he wanted a Hot Wheels Cake with blue and green and black.  She wanted it to be wonky!

This is what I came up with.  I was really happy with the way it turned out, but I would've done a few things differently if I hadn't started having contractions on Thursday night (which led to nothing, but it still made me nervous enough to rush through some of the decorating process).

All of the "solid" areas are cake...including the bridge and hill and the tire on top.  I covered each piece separately then attached them with straws and dowel rods!

If you're interested, the cake is all chocolate cake (this recipe adapted to chocolate) with chocolate buttercream.  It's covered in homemade marshmallow fondant, decorated with fondant and gum paste!

Be sure to check out all my other cakes here!

  4. Thanks - I think I started with (3) 8" and (3) 12" rounds, then carved them down to the wonky shape. This was way back in January and I was 9 months pregnant... I can't find any notes about it, so that's just a guess!
