An Owl Cake for Niki

This owl cake was really fun... for two reasons.  First up, Niki's husband Jody ordered it for her as a surprise for her birthday and I love surprises!  (Niki ordered the Rock Star Music cake for their son a couple of months ago)

It was also fun because I got to make this cutie-pie little owl.  Jody told me that Niki loved owls and that's what he wanted on the cake, so I searched images online for ideas and found this perfect little owl on a cake that I wanted to copy.  I showed the pic to Jody and he said it was perfect, so I did my best to copy it.

Considering it was my first owl, I thought it turned out pretty good!  I hope Niki liked it too!

This is white vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream, covered in marshmallow fondant and decorated with a gum paste leaves and owl, and all the other decorations are marshmallow fondant.
